How do you choose the right carpet cleaning company? Is price the best way? If you’re looking for a company to clean your carpets you’ve probably noticed that the prices vary greatly, some will charge £60 for a whole house, while others £60 for just the lounge.
So what ‘s going on here? We have two totally different services being offered here. The cheaper option is a ONE STEP clean, they will set the machine up with a detergent in the rinse tank, and start straight off rinsing the carpet. Stubborn marks are gone over a number of times to try to remove them. The operator will quickly go through the rooms as there is no preparation and it’s a ‘you get what you get’ service.
The second service involves a number of steps starting with a vacuum to remove dry soil, then a pre-conditioning spray to loosen and break down the soiling, then agitation to work the pre-conditioning spray through the pile. Now comes the rinse step, hot water is used to remove all the soil and cleaning treatments, and this is immediately vacuumed away. The more powerful the vacuum the dryer the carpets, then ‘air movers’ or fans are used to help speed up the drying.
So which is best? Firstly it should be pointed out that the cheaper service will mean much less time spent getting the best result and the operator will be in a hurry to move on to the next job, and that the more expensive service does not mean that the company make more money as they spend longer on cleaning your carpets. The second service uses the proven system we use every day for cleaning everything from our hands, our clothes, even our vehicles, that is, water and cleaning agent, agitate, rinse and then dry.
So simply put, you do get what you pay for, if you care about your carpets and you want your carpets clean and returned to almost like new go with the proven method, the method recommended by the IICRC, and by carpet manufacturers, the multi step process.
Carpet Cleaning and Black Socks!
Carpet Cleaning and Black Socks! With some carpets I know that cleaning, while it will remove all the dirt, is not going to improve the carpets appearance. Some types of synthetic pile carpets, as they get older, start to capture fluff and fibres that they come into contact with. The added problem with these carpets is that vacuuming will not remove the entangled fibres, and when the fibres are from black socks the carpets will still look bad after cleaning because of the darkening from the black fibres.
When cleaning, we will simply be cleaning the black fibres. The carpet will be clean but have areas that are darker due to the trapped black fibres. So when possible we set about removing the black fibres, this is a time consuming process. The image shows the fibres removed from just one small area.
Last week we had to squeeze in some carpet cleaning in Witham, excited and keen to move into their new flat a young couple were dismayed by the condition of the carpets.
With just a day to go before they were to move in we arrived. Using one of the best products for deep cleaning this type of carpet we pre-conditioned the carpet to dissolve to soiling, then using our powerful extraction machine we rinsed the carpets clean of all the soil and grease. Air movers helped to speed dry the carpets and within a few hours the carpets were not only clean, but also dry.
With that worry gone, the property took on a clean and bright feel. We were finished and the owners delighted but the work for them was not done the new owners next set about deep cleaning their new kitchen!
